Dashboard tour

The PregnancyPal dashboard is the home screen you land on after signing in — it shows your current week, today's highlights, milestone countdowns, quick-launch tools (kicks, contractions, water, meal plan, appointments), and shortcuts to the rest of the app. It's designed to give you everything you need today in under one screen of scrolling.

The dashboard is intentionally calm. It does not pile up red badges, urgency banners, or "5 things you must do now". You see what's most useful for today, and the rest is one tap away in the sidebar or bottom nav.

What you can do from the dashboard

  • See your current week and how many weeks/days are left until your due date.
  • Read today's highlight — what's happening with the baby and you this week.
  • Launch any practical tool with one tap (kick counter, contractions timer, water log, meal plan).
  • Check your next appointment if one is scheduled.
  • Read or dismiss milestone celebrations at trimester transitions and special weeks.
  • Jump to any other section from the navigation.

How the dashboard is organized

The layout adapts by surface (web shows more horizontal sections; mobile stacks vertically) but the order of priority is the same:

1. The greeting + week card (top)

The first thing you see. Includes:

  • Your name and a friendly greeting.
  • Current week in big type (e.g. "Week 22 · Day 3").
  • Trimester label (1st / 2nd / 3rd).
  • Days until due date as a soft countdown.
  • A short, week-specific message (e.g. "Your baby is about the size of a banana — and you might feel stronger kicks this week.").

2. Today's highlight (just below)

A short card with one practical thing for today — usually one of:

  • A meal-plan preview ("Today's lunch suggestion is …").
  • A wellness reminder ("It's been a while since you logged water.").
  • A milestone teaser ("You hit Week 22 today — here's what changes.").
  • An appointment reminder ("OB-GYN visit tomorrow at 3 PM.").

Tap to expand or dismiss.

3. Quick-action tools (4–6 tiles)

Big tap-targets for the tools you'll use most:

  • Log a kick → opens the kick counter
  • Time contractions → opens the contractions timer
  • Log water → adds 1 glass to today's water count
  • Today's meals → jumps to the meal plan
  • Add appointment → opens the appointment scheduler
  • Log vital → blood pressure, glucose, weight, etc.

4. Milestone strip

A horizontal strip showing recent + upcoming milestones — first kick week, anatomy scan, glucose tolerance, viability week, third-trimester start, full-term, etc. Tap any milestone to read more.

5. Insights row

If you've been logging data, the insights row surfaces gentle observations:

  • "Your weight gain is on track."
  • "You logged 8 kicks yesterday — within typical range."
  • "You haven't logged a vital this week."

Insights are factual and never alarmist. They're meant to help you notice patterns, not to scare or diagnose.

6. Quick shortcuts (bottom)

Direct links to the major sections — Pregnancy Tracking, Wellness, Diet, Appointments, Community, Account — so you can pivot to anything in one tap.

Examples

  • You signed up yesterday and just landed on the dashboard. You see "Week 7 · Day 4" big at the top, a friendly note about early-pregnancy fatigue being normal, a quick-action grid where "Today's meals" is highlighted, and a hint card pointing you to set up your first appointment.
  • You're 35 weeks and using PregnancyPal daily. You see "Week 35 · Day 2", a kick-counter tile pinned at the top of quick actions because you log kicks every evening, a contractions-timer tile right next to it (you've started practicing), and an appointment reminder for next Tuesday.
  • You skipped onboarding. You see a soft "Finish setting up your profile?" card at the top with a one-tap link to fill in LMP. Until you do, the week and due-date numbers are placeholders.

Tips

  • Re-order quick actions: Long-press (mobile) or right-click (web) a tile to move it. The dashboard remembers your layout per device.
  • Hide insights you don't want: Tap the small ⋮ on any insight card and pick "Hide this type". You can re-enable from settings.
  • Add to home screen: If you're on web and want one-tap access, install the PWA (see Installation).
  • Check the milestone strip on Sundays: Many milestones tick over on the day-of-week your week increments — Sunday is when most users hit a fresh week.
  • Mobile only: Pull down on the dashboard to refresh and force-sync from the cloud.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the dashboard show more numbers and graphs?

Because pregnancy is a long, gradual process and dashboards full of urgent metrics can be more anxiety-inducing than helpful. The dashboard surfaces what's relevant today. For deeper analytics — weight trend, BP trend, kick session history — open the relevant feature page from the sidebar or quick actions.

Can I customize what's on the dashboard?

You can re-order or hide quick-action tiles, hide specific insight types, and dismiss milestone teasers you've already read. Full layout customization (multi-column, custom widgets) is on the roadmap.

What happens on the dashboard when I'm in pre-pregnancy mode?

The week card becomes a cycle-day card, quick actions swap kick-counter for cycle-logging tools, and the milestone strip shows ovulation predictions instead of pregnancy milestones. Everything else is the same shape.

Why don't I see my insights right after signing up?

Insights need 1–2 days of logged data to start. The first insight card usually appears 24–48 hours after your first kick log, water log, or vital entry.

Where do appointments and reminders show up?

Upcoming appointments surface in "Today's highlight" if they're within 24 hours, in the milestone strip if they're farther out, and always in the Appointments section. Reminders are independent — they trigger as push notifications regardless of whether you have the dashboard open.

Can I rename "Today's highlight" or change what shows there?

Not yet. The highlight is auto-curated. If you find a category unhelpful (e.g. "milestone teaser"), you can dim it from settings. Manual override of the highlight is on the roadmap.

Can I export my dashboard view?

The dashboard itself isn't exportable, but every underlying data type (logs, vitals, appointments) can be exported as PDF from its own section.

What this guide does NOT cover

  • Each individual feature in detail — those have their own pages in upcoming docs batches.
  • Notification setup or push permissions — those are in the Notifications section (later batch).
  • Offline-mode behavior on mobile — covered in the Mobile section (later batch).
