Notification preferences
Notification preferences in PregnancyPal are the per-category switches that decide which kinds of reminders the app may send you — Daily Tips, Appointment Reminders, Milestone Alerts, and Diet Reminders — alongside a Smart Notification Preferences area for finer control.
Once you have turned push on, you decide what actually reaches you. Not everyone wants every reminder, and that is the point: you can keep the nudges that help and switch off the ones that do not. Your choices live in one place and stay exactly as you set them until you change them.
These toggles only choose which categories are allowed. Whether notifications can be delivered at all depends on push being enabled, and when they may reach you depends on your quiet hours.
What you can do with notification preferences
- Turn Daily Tips on or off — short, general pregnancy tips through the day.
- Turn Appointment Reminders on or off — nudges connected to your scheduled appointments.
- Turn Milestone Alerts on or off — gentle notes when you reach a pregnancy milestone.
- Turn Diet Reminders on or off — prompts tied to your diet and nutrition routine.
- Adjust Smart Notification Preferences — a dedicated area for tuning how reminders behave for you.
- Mix and match freely — enable any combination, in any order, and change it whenever you like.
How to set your notification categories
- Open your preferences: Profile → Preferences (
/profile/preferences). - Make sure push is enabled so your choices can actually be delivered — see Push notifications.
- Find the Notification Category toggles: Daily Tips, Appointment Reminders, Milestone Alerts, and Diet Reminders.
- Switch each category on or off to match what you want to receive.
- Open Smart Notification Preferences to fine-tune how notifications behave beyond the four main categories.
- Set quiet hours if you want overnight reminders suppressed — see Quiet hours.
Examples
- Only the essentials — You keep Appointment Reminders and Milestone Alerts on, but switch off Daily Tips and Diet Reminders because you prefer to check those yourself. PregnancyPal respects exactly that: you only hear from it about appointments and milestones.
- Building good habits — Early in pregnancy you turn on Daily Tips and Diet Reminders to help you settle into new routines, then trim them back later once the habits stick.
- A celebratory feed — You leave Milestone Alerts on so each pregnancy milestone gets a small, warm acknowledgement, while keeping the other categories off for a quieter experience.
Tips
- Start with everything off, then add what helps. It is easier to switch on the one or two categories you want than to mute a stream you did not choose.
- Appointment Reminders pair naturally with scheduling. If you rely on the reminders, keep your appointments up to date — see Appointment reminders.
- Diet Reminders work best alongside an active routine. Turn them on while you are following a plan, off when you are not.
- Use Smart Notification Preferences to tune the experience. It is the place to refine how reminders behave when the four simple toggles are not enough.
- Revisit your choices each trimester. What is useful early on may not be what you want later — preferences are meant to be changed.
Frequently asked questions
What are the four notification categories?
Daily Tips, Appointment Reminders, Milestone Alerts, and Diet Reminders. Each has its own toggle, so you can enable any combination independently.
Do I have to receive all categories?
No. Every category is independent. You can enable just one, all four, or none — it is entirely your choice, and you can change it any time.
What is Smart Notification Preferences?
It is a dedicated area in your preferences for fine-tuning how notifications behave for you, beyond simply switching the four categories on or off. Use it when you want more control than the basic toggles offer.
Will changing a category send a notification?
No. Toggling a category only changes which reminders are allowed going forward. It does not send anything on its own.
Why am I not receiving reminders even with a category enabled?
Check two things: that push is enabled and its status badge reads "Enabled", and that your quiet hours are not currently suppressing reminders. A category being on only matters when push can be delivered.
Are Milestone Alerts based on my real progress?
They are reminders tied to reaching pregnancy milestones in the app. They are friendly notes to celebrate progress — not medical assessments of you or your baby.
What this feature does NOT do
- Does not send medical alerts. Daily Tips, Appointment Reminders, Milestone Alerts, and Diet Reminders are all general reminders and tips — none of them is a medical warning or a clinical instruction.
- Does not diagnose or assess your health. A Milestone Alert celebrates a milestone in the app; it is not a judgement about how your pregnancy is going.
- Does not deliver anything if push is off or blocked. Category toggles only matter once push is enabled and not blocked at the system level.
- Does not bypass quiet hours. Wellness reminders still respect the quiet-hours window you set.
Notification preferences control convenience reminders only — they are not medical advice and cannot replace prenatal care. For any question about your health, your symptoms, your diet, or your appointments, talk to your healthcare provider.
