Offline mode
Offline behavior in PregnancyPal means that, without a connection, the app can open and show recently loaded data from a local cache â but signing in, saving new entries, and syncing all require internet. PregnancyPal is not a full offline app.
We'd rather tell you exactly how this works than let you discover it at an awkward moment. PregnancyPal stores your data in the cloud so it's safe and syncs across your devices. To make the app feel quick, some recently loaded information is cached on your device, so opening the app shows your last-loaded dashboard even on a flaky connection. But the moment you need to sign in fresh or save something new, the app needs to reach the internet.
There is no downloadable offline package and no full offline editing. Plan around that, and you won't be caught out.
What you can do offline (and what you can't)â
- Works without a connection: opening the app and seeing your last-loaded data from the cache â your most recent dashboard, profile, and recently viewed info.
- Needs a connection: signing in or signing up, saving any new entry (weight, mood, symptoms, appointments, kick counts), and syncing changes to and from the cloud.
- Not available: a full offline mode, offline editing that queues and saves automatically later, or a downloadable offline copy of the whole app.
In short: read recently, yes; sign in or save, no â those need internet.
How to work smoothly around connection gapsâ
- Open the app while you still have signal so your latest data loads into the cache.
- Sign in before you go somewhere with no coverage â you can't authenticate offline.
- Save important entries while connected. If you log a kick count or a symptom, make sure you have a connection so it actually saves and syncs.
- Reconnect to sync. When your connection returns, reopen the app so it can pull the latest data and reflect anything that changed on another device.
- Confirm an entry saved before assuming it's recorded â if you were offline, it may not have gone through.
Examplesâ
- On the subway â You open PregnancyPal underground with no signal. It shows your dashboard from the last time it loaded. You can read it, but if you try to log today's weight, it won't save until you're back online.
- Airplane mode overnight â Your phone is in airplane mode. In the morning the app still opens to your cached view. You turn the connection back on, reopen the app, and add the entries you wanted.
- Spotty clinic Wi-Fi â The waiting-room connection drops in and out. You wait for a stable moment to sign in and to save your appointment notes, rather than risk a lost entry.
Tipsâ
- Treat saving as an online action. If saving matters, make sure you have a connection first.
- Don't rely on the cache for current data. What you see offline is the last thing that loaded, which may be out of date.
- Reopen after reconnecting so the app refreshes and syncs.
- Keep the app updated so caching behaves as expected.
- For a portable record with no connection needed, export a PDF while online and keep it on your device â see Sharing & PDF reports.
Frequently asked questionsâ
Can I log entries while offline and have them save later?â
No. New entries need a connection to save and sync. There's no automatic offline queue that uploads later, so confirm you're online before saving anything important.
Why can't I sign in without internet?â
Signing in checks your credentials against the cloud, which requires a connection. Once signed in and loaded, the app can show cached data, but the sign-in step itself needs internet.
Is my data stored only on my phone?â
No. Your data lives in your cloud account (Firestore). The device keeps a cache of recently loaded data for speed, but the source of truth is the cloud.
Will I lose data if I lose connection?â
Anything already saved to the cloud is safe. The risk is with new entries you try to save while offline â those may not record. Save while connected to avoid this.
Is there a downloadable offline version?â
No. There is no offline package to download and no full offline mode. PregnancyPal needs internet to sign in, save, and sync.
Does the Android app work better offline than the web app?â
Both follow the same rule: a cached view can appear without a connection, but sign-in, saving, and syncing need internet. The Android app adds native conveniences (see Install on Android) but not full offline editing.
What this feature does NOT doâ
- It does not provide a full offline mode. Sign-in, saving, and syncing all require an internet connection.
- It does not queue offline entries to upload later. If you save while offline, the entry may not be recorded.
- It does not offer a downloadable offline copy of your data or the app.
- The cached view may be out of date and should not be treated as your current, authoritative data.
- PregnancyPal does not diagnose, monitor your pregnancy in the background, or replace prenatal care â online or offline.
PregnancyPal is a companion, not a clinician. For any medical question or concern about your pregnancy, contact your healthcare provider or your local emergency number. This app does not provide medical advice.
